Prior to this, Oriana worked for Texas’ largest nonprofit for over 20 years. BakerRipley is a Houston nonprofit that serves over 500,000 people a year with an annual budget of about $570 million. During her tenure, she played several key strategic roles.
As both Chief of Staff and Vice President of Organizational Development, she undertook pivotal roles as a strategic adviser to the President and CEO, as well as the Senior Management team.
n these capacities, she seamlessly blended executive support functions with a strategic focus on optimizing organizational effectiveness. Serving as a trusted confidant to the President and CEO, she provided critical insights and guidance on high-level decision-making, governance, and long-term organizational strategy.
As Senior Director, Oriana managed the division's $10 million budget with over 140 staff, strategically managing a blend of private and public funding sources. This financial portfolio was allocated towards initiatives with a primary focus on community engagement, program innovation, development, and implementation at six community centers. Notably among these initiatives were the Neighborhood Tax Centers, Gulfton Promise Neighborhood, Immigration Program, Small Business Initiatives, FabLab Houston, youth and adult education programs.
Her leadership in financial management played a pivotal role in driving the success of these initiatives, ensuring that the allocated funds were optimally utilized to achieve their intended social impact and community-oriented objectives.
In 2017, amid the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, Oriana played a crucial role as the Site Director, assuming responsibility for the comprehensive operations and logistics of the NRG shelter. In an extraordinary display of leadership and organizational acumen, she successfully managed the facility's functions, ensuring the seamless provision of support to over 8,000 displaced neighbors within an intense 30-day period. Her dedication and strategic approach not only facilitated the immediate needs of the affected individuals but also contributed significantly to the overall effectiveness of the emergency response efforts.
